Workshop 2: Financing Growth of Medical Technology Companies

Financing the start up and growth of medical technology businesses is a major challenge for company founders and managers. Whilst there are a number of financing alternatives, access to adequate amount of capital is one of the major barriers to success in commercialising Australian medical technology innovation.

This workshop will address the typical lifecycle of medical technology companies and the sources of funding available at each stage. It will provide an overview of the funding challenges through an actual company case study putting forward both the perspective of the founder/management and investors.

Types of funding that will be discussed are;

  • Angel
  • Venture capital
  • Partnering
  • Initial Public Offering (IPO)
  • Grant support

Workshop 3: Mentoring for Medical Technology Businesses:

“Small Sins cast Long Shadows”  AKA “Cellar or Stellar”, a corporate saga in 4 acts.

A simulated case study has been prepared for active dissection by all members attending this session. Within the membership of the attendees of the session will be experts in company structure, corporate governance, Intellectual Property, Investment, Project Management, General Management, International Sales and Marketing, Regulatory Approvals and more.

The thrust of this session is to show the development of a medical device company through a number of stages and illustrate how decisions made at one stage impact, both positively and negatively, on the progress through other stages.

All of us have committed some of these “Sins” and collectively we would like to explore how the corrections were made and why. Come prepared with pencil and paper, as well as experience and better judgment.
